Swimming with Dolphins

Encounters with wildlife are more accessible than ever, with a bewildering array of adventures on offer. Swimming with Dolphins, Tracking Gorillas: How to have the world’s best wildlife experiences presents a range of inspiring ideas, from meeting the world’s iconic wildlife to more unusual encounters, highlighting the best and the most ethical options. With nearly 20 years’ experience travelling the globe, Ian Wood picks his favourite animal hot spots, from tracking mountain gorillas to kayaking with alligators in the Everglades; from being up close with elephants on a walking safari to snorkelling with whale sharks and climbing in search of condors.

As Jonathan and Angie Scott (of BBC’s Big Cat Diary) say in the Foreword, “my first response when I opened Ian Wood’s thoughtful and informative book was to dust off my rucksack, fill it with cameras and lenses, and head into the wild.”

Pointers on how best to encounter each animal, what to see when and where, and what else you might see along the way, help readers plan the journey of a lifetime.

“Walking through African savanna in search of lions is thrilling – but it’s also an opportunity to observe smaller creatures such as antlions lurking in the sand.  The lure of tigers might inspire you to visit India, but sloth bears are a great added bonus. And while macaws are the main attraction at a salt lick, keep half an eye out for giant otters swimming in the river.” says Ian Wood in the Introduction.
